Demonstrate problem-solving techniques.

The following [fictional] individuals are valued employees in ABC Hospital. Reflect on the traits described for each, and provide an analysis of their decision-making approaches, and how they can improve and develop as leaders. You may also find it helpful to reflect on the principles of emotional intelligence presented in Unit 3.

Employee A – Makes decisions easily, and promptly. Employee A’s colleagues often say she is impulsive because she so easily adapts to new situations and changes within the organization.

Employee B – Struggles with problem-solving. Change is difficult for him, although he knows it is necessary in the healthcare environment.

Employee C – Is eager to learn but lacks the ability to properly execute or implement new processes. They attend trainings, take notes, and express a desire to move forward, but decisions are ultimately not made, and their employees are left feeling “in the wind” about potential issues in the department.

Employee D – Enjoys problem-solving and often reaches out to colleagues to help trouble-shoot issues in other departments. This eagerness can sometimes be perceived as an overreach of rank and authority.

Gateway Community College Decision Making as a Leader in Healthcare Discussion

Nursing Assignment Help

Introduction:
In this assignment, we will analyze the decision-making approaches of four different employees in ABC Hospital, namely Employee A, Employee B, Employee C, and Employee D. We will also discuss their strengths and areas for improvement as leaders. Additionally, we will consider the principles of emotional intelligence to better understand their decision-making styles. Let’s now proceed to analyze each employee’s approach to problem-solving.

Employee A:
Employee A is known for making decisions easily and promptly, often adapting quickly to new situations and changes within the organization. Colleagues may perceive this as impulsiveness. This individual’s decision-making approach can be seen as proactive and adaptable. However, to improve as a leader, Employee A should consider carefully assessing the potential consequences of their decisions and weighing all available options before taking action. It would be beneficial for Employee A to develop a more systematic decision-making process that incorporates critical thinking and analysis.

Employee B:
Employee B struggles with problem-solving and finds it difficult to adapt to change, despite realizing its necessity in the healthcare environment. This individual’s decision-making approach may be characterized by hesitation and resistance to change. To develop as a leader, Employee B should focus on cultivating a growth mindset and embracing continuous learning. By seeking opportunities to enhance problem-solving skills, such as participating in workshops or seeking guidance from colleagues, Employee B can become more comfortable with change and improve their decision-making abilities. Developing greater emotional intelligence can also aid in managing the associated stress and anxiety that arise from uncertain situations.

Employee C:
Employee C displays eagerness to learn and attend trainings, which is commendable. However, they struggle with executing and implementing new processes effectively. This employee’s decision-making approach seems to lack follow-through and effective communication. To improve as a leader, Employee C should focus on translating their knowledge into action by clearly defining goals, creating implementation plans, and effectively communicating expectations to their team. Building strong relationships and seeking input from colleagues can contribute to addressing potential issues and ensuring successful execution of new processes.

Employee D:
Employee D enjoys problem-solving and actively seeks help from colleagues to troubleshoot issues in other departments. However, this eagerness may sometimes be perceived as overstepping boundaries. Employee D’s decision-making approach can be seen as collaborative, seeking diverse perspectives to find solutions. To enhance their leadership skills, Employee D should practice appropriate communication and respect for hierarchy. By understanding and acknowledging the rank and authority structure within the organization, Employee D can maintain positive relationships while still utilizing their problem-solving skills to benefit the hospital.

Conclusion:
In analyzing the decision-making approaches of Employee A, Employee B, Employee C, and Employee D, we have identified specific areas for improvement in their leadership skills. By developing a more systematic decision-making process, embracing change and continuous learning, improving execution and communication abilities, and respecting organizational hierarchy, these employees can enhance their effectiveness as leaders in ABC Hospital. Additionally, considering the principles of emotional intelligence can significantly contribute to their growth and success in navigating the complexities of the healthcare environment.
